OC was Trashed…but not any more!

Hey people! Marc B here.

This past Saturday, after surfing a small, high-tide morning at 17th street in Huntington Beach, I teamed up with Save Our Beach (http://www.saveourbeach.org) for their monthly beach cleanup. Every fourth Saturday, Save Our Beach meets at 1st street/Ocean Avenue in Seal Beach along with hundreds of volunteers from all over the Southland to do their part in keeping our coasts clean.

The following photos are of the event. The trash found on the beach included tires, propane tanks, spray paint cans, water bottles, cigarrette butts by the millions, and all sorts of other pieces of plastic. It was so gnarly. The jetties are the problem. Although they create great surf, they’re a focal point for all the trash, too. (check the photos if you’re in doubt.)

Also included in the photos are some of the faces behind the work that was done. Some people came as far as Riverside, CA (2 hours away) to help out. Families, high school classes, church groups, surfers, and neigbors of the community were included in the cleanup.

By the time we were done, the place was (almost) spotless. One lady reading on the beach said that the day before was the dirtiest she had ever seen the beach. I was glad we stepped in to help.

Here are the photos…
