Cal State Long Beach prides itself on diversity and the same can be said for its music scene. This month we’ve featured five incredibly incandescent talents that you need to check out. (Who knows, you may be sitting next to some of them in class)
Me and my guitar…
Anyone who has had jam sessions with Matt Costa in their living room has to be somewhat decent, right? Well journalism major Marc Beauregard is far beyond that.
He provides mellow, feel-good tunes that any So Cal college student can relate to and appreciate.
This surf stud has been belting out original songs since he was 12 years old.
“Musical instruments were always available at a very young age. Naturally, I picked them up and played them frequently,” Beauregard said.
What exactly inspires someone to devote so much effort at such a young age?
“Music was passed to me by my grandfather and father,” he said. “It was either live jams that we would create for hours on end, or Neil Young, Bob Dylan, James Taylor, Cream, or Tom Petty filling the air. I cannot remember a family get-together without a jam session. There were always guitars and things lying around.”
Marc B. (a.k.a. Marc Beauregard) is currently lined up with a few fellow musicians to expand on his acoustic-surf jam band.
“Each member represents an intricate facet of the music-making process,” he said.
Chris VonWilpert leads on guitar, while Drew Martin rocks the drums.
The band adds a little flair with DJ F-Street’s turntable skills and these talents mixed with Beauregard’s vocals and rhythm guitar will most definitely blow you away.
